When you are looking to expand your family, you will probably need to change your living arrangements, too. Families need a lot more space than a couple and there are other considerations that should be made as well. The following are some things you should look for when buying a home for your growing family or moving into a bigger apartment to accommodate your needs.

- Look for a place with more than one bathroom. You can definitely manage with one bathroom, but having two or more will save you from a lot of hassle.
- Make sure there is adequate bedroom space. This is important so that everyone feels like they can have privacy when they need it.
- Look for safety features. For instance, a home that has low railings on the stairs can be dangerous for children.
- Don’t buy a place without laundry facilities. There is a lot more laundry to do when you have children and you won’t always have the time to run to the Laundromat. Having laundry facilities directly in your unit will give you a lot more flexibility and you will always be able to have clean clothes.
- Make sure there is room to grow. If you plan on having more than one child in the future, and you don’t know how permanent your living arrangements will be, you should make sure there will be space for more bodies in the future. For instance, a three bedroom place should be the minimum since you will need a room for you and your partner and a bedroom for both the boys and the girls.
- Try to find a place with some outdoor space. Kids love to play outdoors, and can become depressed if they are confined indoors all the time.
You should make a list of all of your needs and wants, taking into account the tips mentioned above. This will help you make a better decision as you buy a family home or look for a larger place to rent for your growing family.
